It’s all about information. This blog covers topics like essential quantitative concepts, equipment selection and calibration. Remember if you can’t use it for decision making, it’s data.
The postings are aimed at all people growing crops. It matters not whether you’re tinkering around on a few square metres in the backyard /smallholding or a few thousand hectares. At present most countries have metricated so I won’t be using Imperial units.
As you can see I’ve already mentioned the concept of area- “square metres and hectares”. I have highlighted the word are - pronounced like the stuff you breathe – air. Are is a metric unit of area = to 100 square metres. Imagine a square with each side 10 metres long. The are is 100th of a hectare. So 100 of these ares put together makes 1 hectare. This is therefore 100 x 100 = 10’000 square metres.
